SVELAV Avalanche course - Free Skiing 1

Learn about basic avalanche knowledge in our Avalanche course Free Skiing 1 according to standards from Svelav. Your instructor is an IFMGA mountain guide and avalanche instructor.



Description:

A basic avalanche training course for those who want to learn more about how to travel safely in the mountains. Two days out in the terrain with focus on recognizing avalanche terrain, how to use avalanche forecasts, making the right decisions and comrade rescue to be able to save a friend if an avalanche accident would occur. 




Target group:

The course is aimed for anyone who travels in the mountains during winter season and who wants to learn about decision-making in avalanche terrain.


In order to take advantage of the course, which is held out on the mountain, the participants need to be able to handle terrain equivalent to red slopes and also feel comfortable outside the pistes.


(Please note that this course does not cover the requirements for professional work in avalanches, but only suitable for personal use).



Overall educational goals:

After the course, the participants should be able to reduce the risk during activities in avalanche terrain on their own.


The participants should be able to search and interpret information about avalanche danger (terrain classification, avalanche forecasts) and be able to use it to reduce their own risks.


Participants should be able to identify avalanche terrain and independently find route choices in terrain that is safe.


Participants should understand how risk assessments and decisions are influenced by internal and external factors.


The participants must be able to independently carry out a comrade rescue and know how a handover to organized rescue works.




Included in the course:

Two day training with IFMGA guide and avalanche instructor.

Loan of shovel, probe and transceiver.


Not included in the course:

Personal ski equipment

Lift card

Insurance that covers off-piste skiing

Helmet and avalanche backpack(recommended).
